La Pocha Nostra is a troupe of performance artists founded by Guillermo Gomez-Pena and Roberto Sifuentes. They have been performing around the world together for 15 years. They rock.
I met Guillermo Gomez-Pena one night after seeing him perform at the Lab in SF. He did one action where members of the audience came on stage and held a rifle to different parts of his body. I held the rifle into his mouth while he was on his knees. I was so blown away and inspired. I told him that I wanted to be a performance artist and I wanted to learn from him. He said, “Ok”, after giving me an intense, cock-browed stare and said he would pass my number onto his people and they would call me soon to do a performance. After a few days, I went by his office to make sure they had my number. They did and within a week they called me to perform with La Pocha Nostra at the De Young Museum. And so it began.
